Services:

1. The North Asia Service

This Service offers a frequency of 18 days covering the base ports in Australia of Brisbane, Newcastle, Melbourne, Adelaide, Port Kembla and Townsville. In Asia direct calls include Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Keelung, Inchan, Busan, Yokohama, Kobe and Shanghai. We also accept containerised cargoes from Dalian, Xingang, Qingdao, Ningbo, Nanjing and other ports in China.
Other Ports in the North East Asia region and Australia are also serviced on an inducement basis, whilst transshipment opportunities over Hong Kong and Busan are offered to and from other North East Asia regions.
The service employs four modern vessels, namely Cape Donington, Cape Darnley, Cape Delgado and Cape Delfaro. The vessels have been purpose built to best fit the trade requirements. These 30,000dwt 'state of the art' multi-purpose tweendeckers offer excellent flexibility for containers, unitised cargoes, projects, heavy lifts and other break bulk cargoes. Crane coverage is more than ample with up to 220t capacity available. Importantly, each vessel has built in dehumidifiers to reduce the 'sweating' component of some cargoes. Each vessel in this fleet has a service speed in excess of 18 knots.

2. South East Asia Service

The Line offers a frequency of 17 days covering the base ports in Australia of Brisbane, Newcastle, Port Kembla and Melbourne. In Asia direct calls include Jakarta, Singapore, Port Kelang and Sriracha (Bangkok).
Other ports in the South East Asia region and Australia are also serviced on an inducement basis, whilst transshipment opportunities over Singapore are offered to and from the Indian subcontinent and other regions.
This Service employs four vessels, namely Cape Preston, Cape York, Cape Conway and Cape Moreton. These multi-purpose tweendeckers are in the range of 23,000dwt and purpose selected to best fit the trade requirements. The fleet offers excellent flexibility for containers, unitised cargoes, projects and other break bulk cargo options. All vessels have good self-sustaining crane coverage (up to 78t and up to 93t on Cape Moreton) and a service speed of 15 knots.

3. PNG service

AAL PNG service offers a frequency of 17 days to Port Moresby, Lae and the out ports of Alotau, Oro Bay, Kaviang, Rabaul and Madang covering the base ports in South East Asia of Port Kelang, Sriracha (Bangkok), Singapore and Jakarta. In North East Asia AAL PNG service is covering the base ports of Shanghai, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Keelung, Busan, Inchon, Xiangang, Kobe and Yokohama. A wide range of other ports throughout Asia and the Indian subcontinent are offered through transshipment via Singapore and Shanghai.
AAL PNG service utilises following vessels: Cape Preston, Cape York, Cape Conway and Cape Moreton from South East Asia together with the Papuan Gulf dedicated to service the out ports direct and the Cape Delfaro, Cape Darnley, Cape Donington and Cape Delgado from North East Asia. These multi-purpose tweendeckers are state of the art vessels enabling AAL PNG service to handle both container, breakbulk and project cargoes in a timely and professional manner.
Cargo management

Containers

The Lines carry considerable volumes of full and empty containers, both north and southbound. Most of our vessels are partly 'cell-guided' and are therefore ideal to carry containerised traffic.
When it comes to full containers we focus on our strengths and generate our main volumes in China and Singapore/Indonesia. Container traffic to and from Papua New Guinea is also significant.
In addition, we carry a significant amount of revenue earning empty containers for other shipping lines. Main traders also use the Lines to import specialised containers such as tanktainers, two pallet-wide and bulk containers for domestic use in Australia.

Project and Heavy Lift

The Lines carry project and heavy-lift cargoes on a regular basis. The AAL ships can handle up to 93t lift with ships gear and the PAS vessels can lift heavy pieces up to 220t in weight. For these types of cargoes we successfully work in partnership with all major international engineering companies in Asia and Australia, and their apporinted global forwarders. We have recently carried considerable volumes for the following companies:

• GM Holden (extension of the car plant in Adelaide)
• Bechtel (Millmerran Power Plant and Comalco Alumina Refinery in Queensland)
• CIMC (coal and grain wagons for New South Wales)
• ABB (transformers for all major Australian East Coast ports)
• KONE (escalators for all major Australian East Coast ports)
• Kogan Creek Power Station.

Earthmoving Equipment and Boats

Being a multi-purpose liner service, we are able to cater to the most specific and diversified requirement of our customers. The flexibility of calling at general cargo terminals and wharves in Australia and Asia allows us to tailor operations to suit the needs of specific cargoes and shippers.
The carriage of earthmoving equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders and rolling stock in general is a delicate business due to high value combined with the sensitive nature of the cargo. Our teams specialise in this area and on a regular basis ship in excess of 20 large pieces of equipment on a single voyage. The layout of the vessels and the ability of the stevedores and crews working with us, allow us to compete with Ro-Ro carriers, for whom, we sometimes carry over-flow cargo. The biggest importers of used earthmoving equipment in Australia are major supporters of both services. We also carry new equipment for the Caterpillar, Komatsu and Hitachi brands.
Boats offer another challenge and the flexibility of our service has allowed us to compete strongly. We can load or discharge straight from/to the wharf or water as per customer's requirements. This is a facility that few other liner services can offer. We carry used and new boats for most of the boat manufacturers and brokers in Australia. All this, of course, with the promise of a safe and reliable mode of carriage.
Unitised Cargo

The efficient and safe carriage of metal cargoes requires vessels that are able to:

• sustain a high point-loading
• have box holds to minimise lashing
• guarantee a safe atmosphere in cargo hatches.

The handling of metal cargoes requires close teamwork of a diverse group of people, each with a specific task to be completed in a very narrow window.
The AAL and PAS vessels and teams are especially suited for this task and on an annual basis carry over 1 million tons of metals between ports in Asia and Australia. This is our niche speciality and we take pride in performing it with an exceptionally high success rate for all metal cargoes ranging from narrow-gauge steel pipe all the way through to copper cathode sheets.
Equipped with dehumidifiers, strengthened tank-tops, purpose-built spreaders, dedicated stevedores and long relationships with some of the biggest metal producers in the world, we are well positioned to service your requirements. The different cargo types handled are:

* copper cathode
* pipe and RHS
* hot rolled coils (20t and above)
* zinc ingots
* plate
* mesh and wire rod in coil
* lead blocks
* merchant bar
* horizontal and vertical coils.
